The 1898 Society

Since its founding in 1898, DePaul University has remained committed to its Vincentian heritage by helping generations of students from all walks of life fulfill their dreams of a college education. Your participation in The 1898 Society continues that proud tradition by helping students bridge the gap between what they can provide and the full cost of a DePaul education.

Donors who make an annual gift of $1,898 or more to support student scholarships during a single fiscal year (July 1–June 30) are recognized as members of The 1898 Society.

There are two types of scholarship gift funds you can support:

Expendable scholarships are current-use funds. When you make an expendable scholarship gift, 100 percent of your gift goes directly to a student in need.

  • Any gift at $1,898 or more can be designated to an existing expendable fund, including the DePaul General Scholarship Fund.
  • Larger gifts of $10,000 or more, given outright or pledged over four years, will establish a new fund that typically supports one or student award of $2,500 annually. Gifts over $20,000 can support larger or multiple student awards. Such funds may be named in your honor or in honor of a loved one.

Endowed scholarships are permanent investments in DePaul and its students. Your gift to an endowed scholarship is invested, and scholarships are distributed from the investment income.

  • Any gift of $1,898 or more can be designated to an existing scholarship endowment, including the DePaul General Scholarship Endowment.
  • A gift of $50,000 or more can establish a new endowment at DePaul to fund scholarships in perpetuity, creating a lasting legacy of student support. Such funds may be named in your honor or in honor of a loved one.
