Donors have a number of ways to invest in current and future DePaul students.

While unrestricted giving is the area of greatest need for DePaul University, donors can also choose to direct gifts toward student scholarships or DePaul's academic and research initiatives. All of our initiatives share a focus on providing an educational environment that best serves the students and faculty of DePaul.

Unrestricted Giving

Unrestricted gifts support the efforts of the university or individual schools and colleges. These contributions also allow for flexible income to address the university's top priorities, including:
  • Scholarship assistance
  • Academic programming
  • Facility renovations

Endowment

The university's endowment acts as a permanent source of income for DePaul. Because the endowment is invested, only a portion of the investment earnings are spent, and the rest of the income is channeled back into the fund so that the endowment grows over time. Thus, the endowment becomes a perpetual source of funding for the university.

DePaul's endowment stood at $344 million on June 30, 2007, which is a significant increase over past years, and reflects the responsible financial management of the university.

DePaul offers a variety of endowment giving options, with university naming opportunities starting at $25,000.

Scholarships

Nearly 75 percent of the 23,000 full-time students at DePaul have received some form of financial assistance. More than 1,200 merit and need-based scholarships are offered to DePaul students each year for a total value of $2.5 million.

  • Merit-based scholarships are based primarily on student's academic performance; in particular, grade point average and class ranking, as specified by the restrictions of the scholarship criteria. Other decisive factors may include extracurricular and community service activities.
  • Need-based scholarships are based on the financial need of potential recipients, who often come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Scholarship support is vital to our students continued success, and DePaul is grateful for your generosity.
