Real Estate Center Lands a Major Gift

The Real Estate Center at DePaul has received a $2 million gift from Douglas Crocker II, retired president and chief executive officer of Equity Residential Properties Trust, and his wife, Cynthia. The gift will fund the directorship of the center. DePaul Finance Professor Suzanne Cannon, who founded the center in 2002, will become the Douglas and Cynthia Crocker Endowed Director of the Real Estate Center.

"After working with Susanne, I knew that we were on the right track to develop a top-notch program at DePaul," Crocker said. "Education is the door to opportunity and I am proud to help support the Real Estate Center." Crocker has been engaged personally with the work of the center since its founding. According to Cannon, "As a nationally recognized leader in the real estate investment trust and multi-housing industries, he has been a remarkable asset for us." The center is the premier home for professional real estate education in the Midwest.

This July, the Clarence Darrow Capital Defense College relocated to the College of Law from the University of Michigan. Operating through the Center for Justice in Capital Cases (CJCC), this program will continue to help criminal defense attorneys meet the challenges of providing representation to individuals charged with capital crimes. Since its establishment, attorneys have worked on an estimated 120 cases.

"The college works to ensure that lawyers representing those charged with capital crimes have the necessary tools to make the difference between a sentence of life in prison or death," said Lyon. "It's about saving lives."

Finding Your Fellow Classmates Just Got Easier

Now you can search for DePaul alumni by major in the updated Classmate Locator. The Alumni Web site's Classmate Locator is the perfect resource to help you contact your friends from DePaul. Only DePaul alumni have access to the Classmate Locator, which is password protected. In addition to searching by major, you can search by name, graduation year, college, city, state, country and employer.

A few months after graduation, all alumni are automatically added to the locator.
