Nationwide Receptions Bring Alumni and University Leaders Together
Patricia O’Donoghue, DePaul’s new vice president for Alumni Outreach and Engagement, is hosting receptions in some 20 cities across the country during the 2009-2010 school year to meet alumni and share new ideas and initiatives. The first of these receptions was held Sept. 15 in San Francisco, followed by a similar event in North Barrington, Ill., on Sept. 22. Registration is open for upcoming receptions in Denver, Seattle, New York City, Minneapolis, and St. Charles, Ill., and more than 10 other locations are being finalized. Further details and registration information is available in the online Events Calendar.

Benefit of the Month: Alumni Insurance
DePaul alumni may be eligible for discounted rates on a variety of insurance plans from Geico and through the DePaul University Alumni Insurance Program. Alumni and their family members can purchase affordable health, life and travel plans through the Alumni Insurance Program. The program also offers GradMed, an alternative short-term medical insurance that has been shown to save graduates up to $400 compared to similar plans. Qualified alumni may receive discounted rates of up to 8 percent on auto insurance from Geico. Visit the Partner Program Discounts webpage for details on these and other alumni discounts.

Student Alumni Ambassadors Program Engages Alumni-To-Be
DePaul students are just a few short years away from becoming alumni. To connect these undergraduates to the alumni community, the Office of Alumni Relations last year launched the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) program. The students selected for the program are some of the most influential and exceptional undergraduates at DePaul. Through SAA, they have the opportunity to attend special events where they network with alumni and share their thoughts on the current university culture. Read more about these bright young minds by visiting the Student Alumni Ambassadors webpage.

Alumni Profile: Jugal Trivedi (CDM ’06)
Jugal TrivediAfter attending a DePaul open house, Jugal Trivedi (CDM ’06) knew that earning his degree here would be invaluable in addition to being a family tradition—five of his family members are DePaul alumni. Since graduating from the College of Computing and Digital Media, Trivedi has made a career in human resources technology. He says he stays connected to DePaul as an alumni volunteer so he can “make a contribution back to the university that contributed so much to my success.” Read more about Trivedi in his online Alumni Profile.

Record-Breaking Enrollment at DePaul
Despite the troubled economy, DePaul University set an all-time record for enrollment this fall, surpassing 25,000 for the first time and increasing total enrollment by nearly 3 percent. In addition, the university welcomes its most ethnically diverse freshman class ever. "Our enrollment is up because of strategic decisions the university made to increase transfer and graduate students, and our freshman class reached our goals for both diversity and academic quality," says David Kalsbeek, senior vice president for enrollment management and marketing. For more about this year’s record enrollment and diversity, read the complete article.

McGowan Science Building Receives Gold LEED Certification
DePaul’s new Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Environmental Science and Chemistry Building has earned a Gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The 130,000-square-foot facility opened in January 2009 and represents a major leap forward in DePaul’s efforts to prepare more students for careers in the sciences. The building’s “green” features include thermal mass walls, double-pane windows, high-efficiency boilers and water heaters, dual-flush toilets, low-flow sinks and showers, and a rooftop garden.
