Open Your Office to DePaul Students
As many of you know, all first-year DePaul students must register for a Chicago-themed course during their first fall quarter. One component of the Chicago Quarter program is travelling to sites in the Chicagoland area that relate to the theme of the course. Consider hosting Chicago Quarter students at your place of business and welcome them to the DePaul family. In addition, alumni working at nonprofit organizations may volunteer to host a student as part of the Student Service Project, which gives students an opportunity to engage in community service and experiential learning as a volunteer at your nonprofit.

If you are interested in volunteering with these projects, simply update your volunteer line interest areas in your online alumni profile or contact the Office of Alumni Relations at dpalumni@depaul.edu.

Alumni Profile: Lois Stratemeier (LAS ’53)
LoisStratemeierChicago native Lois Stratemeier (LAS '53) grew up on the city’s South Side, where she learned the value of volunteering by following her parents’ example. In the early 1950s, she came to DePaul to earn her bachelor’s degree in history while working part time. Along with her studies and job, she was an active on-campus volunteer, and has remained involved with the university and the Chicago community ever since. Read more about her spirit of service in the online Alumni Profile.

Alumni Association Welcomes New Graduates

Celebrate the Burnham Plan Centennial with DePaul
Throughout the past year, DePaul University has included a variety of special programs and initiatives in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago. This month, the university will host the “Burnham’s Century in Motion” festival, including concerts, tours, roundtable discussions and other special events. These centennial celebrations are held in collaboration with Chicago Metropolis 2020 and its 150 partner organizations, the Harry F. Chaddick Foundation, other universities and civic leaders. A list of DePaul’s Burnham Plan Centennial events is available online.

DePaul Announces Student Video Contest Winner
ThisIsDePaulIn April and May, current DePaul students had the opportunity to participate in the “This Is DePaul” Student Video Contest. Many students created short videos showcasing DePaul’s student life, academics and the Vincentian mission. The 12 finalists’ videos were judged on creativity, originality, depiction of DePaul, overall impression and technical execution. Justin Flocco, a junior digital design major, won first place with Faces of DePaul. Second place went to freshman Paul Gustafson, a digital cinema major, and junior Brendan Leahy, also a digital cinema major, earned third place. Watch all the student videos online.

School of Education Receives $400,000 AT&T Grant
The AT&T Foundation awarded DePaul University's School of Education a four-year, $400,000 grant as part of the $100 million AT&T Aspire initiative, which seeks to increase student success at high school and college and improve workforce readiness. The grant will help DePaul build on its relationship with Nicholas Senn High School in Chicago and expand the national student achievement program Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) in the school. AVID provides underperforming students with the social, emotional and academic support needed to succeed in high school and postsecondary education. For more about how DePaul plans to enhance the AVID program, visit Alumni News.
