Get Ready for DePaul’s Summer Alumni Events
This summer join fellow DePaul alumni and friends at a number of career-related and social events across the country. Highlights include Chicago Cubs games in Denver, Detroit, Washington, D.C. and at home, plus a White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field. Enjoy Summer Send-offs in Chicago's north and south suburbs and catch the racing action during a Day at the Races at Arlington Racetrack. If you’re planning a summer getaway, be sure to check out the various travel and entertainment discounts available to DePaul alumni. The university has partnered with Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz to provide car rental discounts from 5 percent to 40 percent. You also can save money on select purchases with a free alumni membership to Working Advantage. Through this program, you have access to special pricing on hotel stays, theme and water parks, zoos -- even flights and cruises! To register, you will need DePaul's Membership ID number. To obtain the ID, send an email to procurement@depaul.edu. Once you have received a response, visit the Working Advantage website and click on "Register." Using DePaul's Member ID, create an "employee account," then log in as often as you like to shop for the latest deals.Volunteer Opportunity: Support the Latest DePaul Graduates
This June, a new crop of graduates will join the DePaul University Alumni Association. While a number of these alumni plan to continue their education, many others will pursue service and employment opportunities. As they face the challenges of today’s economy, these graduates will rely on their networks to begin their new careers. If you or the organization where you work have a job or internship opening, please let DePaul know so that we can inform our graduates of these opportunities. This year’s Reunion Weekend, Oct. 16-18, 2009, will honor 10 classes celebrating milestone anniversaries: 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004. DePaul Names New Vice President for Alumni Outreach and Engagement
Patricia O'Donoghue, a professor, clinician and former president of Mount Mary College, has been appointed vice president for Alumni Outreach and Engagement at DePaul University. O'Donoghue's appointment to the newly created post marks DePaul's commitment to uniting and enhancing vigorous programs of outreach to alumni, parents and other university stakeholders. DePaul University College of Law was ranked among the nation’s top 100 in U.S. News & World Report’s latest survey of America’s graduate schools. In addition, DePaul’s part-time MBA program at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business placed 9th in the nation. The survey also recognized specific College of Law programs and the college’s exceptional student diversity. Last November, while DePaul journalism student Craig Kanalley watched Barack Obama deliver his presidential victory speech, he noticed the huge number of spectators busy punching out messages on their cell phones and sending them out to friends via the online social networking site Twitter. "It was then that I saw the real power of Twitter and what it could do," says Kanalley, who recently founded the website Breaking Tweets, which posts twittered eyewitness commentary about news from around the world.
