Would you like to serve as an advocate/ambassador for DePaul University and its alumni relations program? Consider joining the DePaul University Alumni Board. The Board supports the Office of Alumni Relations and its mission of providing alumni with a lifelong connection to the DePaul community at large and to building affinity, loyalty and support for the university. For the second year, DePaul’s Operation Read and Restore will provide reading and audiovisual materials to U.S. troops serving abroad. Alumni, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit the names and contact information of family members, current DePaul students, alumni and friends serving overseas in the U.S. Armed Forces. These individuals will then create a wish list of materials, and volunteers can match their gifts to the items on the wish list. Submissions are being accepted online through March 31, and donations will begin in April. To submit a name or sign up to donate, visit alumni.depaul.edu/OperationRandR.University News
College of Commerce Ranks Second Among Illinois Business Schools
DePaul University’s undergraduate program in the College of Commerce was ranked second in Illinois and 71st nationally in a recent survey of business schools by BusinessWeek magazine. A key factor cited in DePaul’s strong showing is the quality of its instructional program, which the survey awarded a grade of A. The BusinessWeek ranking is the latest in a number of kudos DePaul’s College of Commerce has received recently. Way to go Blue Demons! The DePaul women’s basketball team finished the 2008-2009 BIG EAST Conference regular season in a tie for fourth place with Villanova and Notre Dame. Come out to McGrath Arena to watch the women’s basketball NCAA Selection Show with fellow Blue Demon fans. The event begins at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16 and includes free buffet and soft drinks. Event parking is available next door to the arena for $6 at DePaul’s 2335 N. Sheffield Avenue parking facility. DePaul University School of Music student and tuba player Andy Chester was recently selected from among more than 3,000 professional and amateur musicians worldwide who posted audition videos for the first-ever YouTube Symphony Orchestra. A panel of professional musicians chose 200 finalists, and viewers of the video-sharing website voted for the winning performers. Chester will perform with more than 90 fellow musicians from 30 countries at Carnegie Hall on April 15 under the direction of world-renowned conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
