Enrollment at DePaul Reaches Record High
Total enrollment at DePaul University reached an all-time high of 24,352 for the 2008 academic year, a 4 percent increase over last year. This year's freshman class -- 2,555 students -- is another record. Additionally, transfer student enrollment was up 13 percent over 2007. Thanks to the boost in enrollment, DePaul is now the eighth largest private university in the United States. Read more about DePaul enrollment.

DePaul and Puerto Rican Cultural Center Win Carter Foundation Award
Since 2001, thousands of DePaul students, faculty and staff have worked with Chicago's Puerto Rican Cultural Center's (PRCC) programs for low-income and working-class communities. In addition, PRCC staff have taught and lectured in DePaul classes. This joint effort between DePaul's Irwin W. Steans Center and the PRCC recently won the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration. The award recognizes the best campus-community academic service learning partnerships on a state-by-state basis. Together the Steans Center and the PRCC will share the $15,000 award to continue to address the critical health, social and cultural issues affecting Puerto Rican and Latino communities. Check out the complete article to learn more about this honor.

First Students to Graduate from DePaul Program in Kenya

A DePaul University degree program in Nairobi, Kenya, will graduate its first 14 students on Dec. 18. Through a collaborative academic partnership with Tangaza College, DePaul faculty members from the School for New Learning (SNL) work with Tangaza faculty to design the courses and assess student work. Like SNL students, Kenyan students receive credit for learning from their lives in addition to previous academic experience. Upon completion of the
18-month program, graduates earn DePaul bachelor’s degrees. For more about the students and program, read the news article.
