Trustees Elect Mary Dempsey as Board Chair
Chicago Library Commissioner Mary A. Dempsey (JD '82), a DePaul trustee for the past decade, has been elected to chair the university's board of trustees. When she calls her first meeting to order next October, she will become the first woman in DePaul's history to chair its top governing body. For more details, visit the Alumni Relations News page.

DePaul Announces Buy-a-Brick Campaign

DePaul University has announced a buy-a-brick drive as part of its $20 million Campaign for Excellence in Science. "Paving the Way for Excellence in Science" allows alumni, friends, faculty and staff to purchase and personalize bricks that will be incorporated into sidewalks and paved areas around the new Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Science Building on the university's Lincoln Park campus. For more details, visit the Alumni Relations News page.


DePaul Launches Degree Programs in Animation

DePaul University recently launched two degree programs in animation through its School of Cinema & Interactive Media (CIM) in the College of Computing and Digital Media. Since January, students have had the option to major in a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of sciences degree in animation. More than 500 students are currently enrolled in the 25 different animation courses offered during this quarter. For more details, visit the Alumni Relations News page.


Array of Luminaries Will Grace 2008 Commencement

The slate of renowned honorees and speakers at DePaul's June commencement ceremonies include Shirley Ann Jackson, a physicist known for her research in solid-state, quantum and optical physics; Mae C. Jemison, the first African-American woman to travel in space; and Charlie Trotter, one of the nation's best-known chefs and proprietor of the equally famous Charlie Trotter's restaurant in Lincoln Park. Loop Campus Expands with New Facility Purchase

DePaul University has expanded its physical presence on State Street in Chicago's booming South Loop through its just-completed acquisition of the historic 14 E. Jackson Blvd. building. Across the street from the DePaul Center, the 18-story, 384,000-square-foot structure becomes the fifth historic building that DePaul owns along East Jackson Boulevard. Alumni Win Survey Prizes

DePaul graduates who completed the Alumni Survey 2008 by May 23 were entered into a drawing for several prizes. The Office of Alumni Relations is happy to announce the lucky winners: John Palmer (MBA '04) and Viki Stesina (CMN '03) each won a DePaul prize packet containing a sweatshirt, water bottle, license plate frame, lunch bag and hat; Sara Smylie (LAS MA '07) and Michael Olson (COM '01) each won a 2 GB iPod Shuffle; and Mary Beth Waits (EDU '71) and Dan Russell (COM '66, MBA '71) each won a $250 MasterCard gift card. Benefit of the Month: Discounted Car Rental
To help alumni plan their summer vacation or that long-deferred quick getaway, DePaul University has obtained car rental discounts of between five percent to 40 percent from Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz. Welcome Our New Alumni
This year, 4,348 students are graduating from DePaul during the May and June commencement ceremonies. The Office of Alumni Relations and the DePaul University Alumni Board invite everyone to extend a hand of friendship to our newest alumni. The graduates join an alumni community more than 130,000 strong. We look forward to their involvement in the Young Alumni Committee and chapters and groups nationwide.
