Earlier this month, DePaul fans cheered on the men's and women's basketball teams in the BIG EAST Championship Tournaments. Before the men’s game, DePaul fans gathered at Mustang Sally's Bar and Grill to cheer on the Blue Demons. Both DePaul teams played exceptionally well, but the men lost in the opening round of the tournament to Villanova and the women lost in the quarterfinals to second-seeded Rutgers. Congratulations to both teams for all their hard work and terrific seasons! For more information about DePaul athletics, visit the DePaul Blue Demon’s Web site. DePaul's Human Resources Program Recognized DePaul's master of science in human resources degree program is the first in the nation to fully align with new academic guidelines established by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and supported by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). "This stamp of approval from the preeminent human resources society shows that we offer a curriculum that is practical and relevant," said Daniel Koys, associate dean of the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and founder of DePaul's human resources management program. Launched in 2001, DePaul’s human resources master’s degree program enrolls 25 to 30 students each year. DePaul also offers human resources courses to students in its Bahrain and Czech Republic MBA programs. Steans Challenge Raises over $5 Million for Community Service Initiatives Thanks to the successful completion of the $5 million Steans Challenge, DePaul University is deepening its links to the community and encouraging more and more students to engage in community service and learning. Created in 2001 by DePaul trustee Harrison I. Steans and the Steans Family Foundation, the $5 million Steans Challenge gift endowed the Irwin W. Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning, which integrates academic coursework and community service in an effort to instill in students a lifelong commitment to service. By January 2007, some 4,000 donors, including more than 3,000 alumni, contributed an additional $5.1 million to the Steans Center and other university community service initiatives. Due in part to this philanthropic support, 1,000 DePaul students during the 2007 winter quarter are helping more than 100 community organizations through community internships and employment and community research as part of their academic coursework. |
Alumni Relations News The annual Vincentian Service Day challenges the entire DePaul community to give back in the spirit of St. Vincent DePaul. On May 5, 2007, more than 1,000 students, alumni and faculty will join together to volunteer at 40-plus non-profit organizations throughout Chicago. In New York City, alumni and friends will pack and distribute lunches at Yorkville Common Pantry, the largest, nonsectarian, neighborhood-based provider of emergency food in the city. Washington, D.C. alumni will sort, pack and distribute food packages at the Capital Area Food Bank. Not in Chicago, New York or Washington? Let us help you organize a Vincentian Service Day in your hometown. This is an outstanding opportunity to give back to the community, while meeting other DePaul alumni. Check the Alumni Web site in early April for a final list of Vincentian Service Day locations and for event registration. If you know an organization that needs help painting, cleaning, tutoring, handling administrative duties or completing any project appropriate for a team of 5-10 DePaul volunteers, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at (800) 437-1898.
