Ben-Yoseph teaches courses and conducts research in the areas of culture, gender and work. More recently she has focused her teaching and writing on the Holocaust and on cultural homelessness and identity issues. Originally from Romania, Ben-Yoseph received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her doctorate in French literature from Northwestern University. Before joining DePaul in 1991, she was a vice president in market research and training at Continental Bank. Ben-Yoseph credits DePaul for her continually evolving teaching methods. “DePaul and the School for New Learning have a primary mission of teaching and service. I always felt encouraged to explore and improve the many facets of my teaching and learning. I consider questions more important than answers not only because questions lead to continued inquiry but also because they connect students and teachers as learners.” DePaul Receives $2 Million from Keeley Family Foundation The Keeley Family Foundation – founded by John L. Keeley, Jr., president and chief investment officer of Chicago-based Keeley Asset Management Corp. (KAMCO), and his wife, Barbara – has donated $2 million dollars to DePaul University’s College of Commerce. The gift will establish the Christopher L. Keeley Endowed Chair in Investment Management, named in memory of the Keeleys’ youngest son, a DePaul alumnus and KAMCO officer who died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism at age 29 in 2002. The Keeley Chair will be housed within the Center for Financial Services, a new DePaul academic center with a mission to help students bridge the theoretical and practical dimensions of the finance field. The Keeley Family Foundation made the donation to assist DePaul in creating a nationally competitive investment management education program that will help students take advantage of growing professional opportunities in this field. DePaul University Launches New Hispanic Marketing Major Hispanics, the fastest growing ethnic population in the United States, are expected to number 42 million and achieve a collective purchasing power of $928 billion by the end of 2007, according to the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies. This explosive growth has left the business world scrambling to find marketing professionals with the expertise to reach this complex and multifaceted market. To help meet this demand, DePaul University’s College of Commerce in the fall of 2006 launched an undergraduate major in Multicultural Marketing-Hispanic Marketplace. DePaul joins only three other universities nationwide offering programs in this emerging field and appears to provide the first such program in the Midwest. In addition to core marketing classes, students enrolled in the new major take courses in Latin culture and marketing, integrated marketing communication for Hispanic markets, and commercial Spanish language, which requires Spanish proficiency.
