Health Law Program and Intellectual Property Program Recognized for Excellence U.S. News and World Report recognized DePaul’s programs for Heath Law and Intellectual Property within the College of Law as among the best specialty law programs in the nation. Noted for consistent excellence in their fields, Health Law ranked 10th and Intellectual Property placed 11th. The Health Law program is part of DePaul’s Health Law Institute, which was created in 1984. It is the first ABA-accredited program of its kind in the country and offers a master of law degree in health law and a health law certificate. DePaul’s Intellectual Property program, which was initiated in 1997, boasts more than 30 courses and certifications. |

DePaul College of Law Ranked Among Top 100 Also receiving recognition from U.S. News and World Report was the College of Law which ranked among the top 100 law schools in the United States. The College of Law’s rise in the rankings realizes a long-time goal of the University to enhance the College’s programs and attract the highest quality faculty and students. Charles Suchar Appointed as Dean of LA&S Charles Suchar, LAS ’67, has been named to a five year term as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Suchar, who has been acting as interim dean of the college, has worked for DePaul for over 35 years. During his career, he served as chair of the sociology department for seven years before being named to the post of associate dean in 1992. For nine years, Suchar chaired the LA&S Curriculum Committee and he has overseen the new faculty seminar which acculturates tenure-track faculty to the university. Suchar’s top priorities for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will be enhancing academic programs, introducing new programs and areas of study, improving student services and retention efforts and supporting faculty research. Women's and Gender Studies Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary On April 21st, the Women’s and Gender Studies program will mark its 20th anniversary with a series of activities that will showcase the accomplishments, struggles and vision of DePaul’s program in the context of broader movements for social change and justice. W&GS at DePaul began as a minor undergraduate program in women’s studies in 1986, expanded to a graduate certificate program in 1992 and became an undergraduate major three years later. In 2003, “Gender Studies” was added to its official name. The day’s activities will run from noon until 10 p.m. and will be held in Room 120 of the Student Center. DePaul Named One of the Nation's Most Creative Colleges The new national college guide book, "Creative Colleges," ranked DePaul one of the nation’s most creative colleges. The guide researched universities from around the country and profiled the top 200 with outstanding programs in art, drama, dance, music and creative writing. The Theatre School at DePaul was cited by the publication for its wide range of programs, the availability of scholarships and the school’s broad array of extracurricular opportunities – including numerous productions, playwriting festivals, and its guest-lecture series. |
Alumni Relations News Benefit of the Month: Alumni Discounts at the School of Music Spring is in the air and so are the opportunities to explore programs and performances at DePaul University’s School of Music. Alumni are eligible for discounts on the school’s music education workshops. Please visit the Web site for a full listing of these workshops which range from classical to jazz. Additionally, many of the school’s concerts are posted on their Web site and are free to alumni. For general schedules and other information about the School of Music click here. Law School 101: Secrets to First-Year Success Nationally-noted legal scholar and law professor Paul Lisnek will conduct a mock first-year law class using the Socratic method of teaching. Participants will read a case and then argue a position. In addition, Lisnek will discuss the first-year law experience, importance of first-year grades, tips for admissions and preparation strategies upon acceptance to law school. This 90-minute seminar will take place at the DePaul Student Center, Room 314 AB, at 6:00 p.m. on April 18. All participants must pre-register on the Kaplan Web site. Lend a Hand The first Saturday in May is a special day when alumni, students, staff, faculty and community members come together in a Vincentian, Catholic and urban way to serve our community with the common purpose of making St. Vincent de Paul's mission a reality. Vincentian Service Day is a one-day service event that brings the entire DePaul Community together to work with those on the margins of society while enhancing our relationships with community partners. Join us on May 6 at 9:00 a.m. to do a little good and remember the vision of St. Vincent de Paul.
