Strategic Plan Goals Outlined The university has developed a new strategic plan, currently in the approval process, which will outline a strategic vision for the university for the next several years. The draft plan includes the following goals: enriching academic quality by strengthening academic programs and raising the academic rigor and expectations for student learning across the university, prepare students to be socially-responsible future leaders, build strong alumni institutional affinity, pride and lifelong connections and strengthen the financial position of the university through increased support of financial aid, scholarships, academic programs and facilities construction. The President will approve and announce the final plan this spring. | |

Reconnecting with DePaul Alumni have had the opportunity to reconnect with DePaul, and engage with former classmates during pre-game receptions that have been held prior to the men’s basketball games. The DePaul vs. Notre Dame pre-game reception on January 7 at the Allstate Arena drew over 300 alumni. Receptions have been held in other cities with significant numbers of DePaul alumni: Providence, RI on January 21, Milwaukee prior to the Marquette game on January 25, and Tampa, FL before the University of Southern Florida game on February 3. The final pre-game reception of the season is planned for New York vs. St. Johns University on February 18. The Office of Alumni Relations has established regional alumni chapters in southern California and Phoenix, AZ. On January 21, over 60 alumni and friends met with Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M. at the 12th annual Orange County Dinner in Southern California. Over 100 attendees have registered for the Phoenix area alumni event on February 12. Fr. Holtschneider will attend the event which is hosted by James L. (COM’61) and Diane M. Czech. For the first time, Alumni Relations has scheduled four networking events for DePaul alumni who live in the Chicago suburbs. Suburban events will be held on March 29 in Naperville, March 30 in Schaumburg, April 5 in Glenview and in Palos Park on April 19. DePaul Celebrates Black History Month Throughout February, DePaul will celebrate Black History Month with lectures, symposiums and performances. Kicking off the celebrations was a lecture by Pulitzer-Prize winning author Taylor Branch on February 7. Branch recently released “At Canaan’s Edge: America in the King Years 1965-1968”, the final book in his trilogy on the U.S. civil rights movement. March Madness Is Coming to the Allstate Arena DePaul University will host the 2006 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship first and second rounds on March 18 and 20 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. If the nationally-ranked Blue Demons are invited to the NCAA Tournament, they will play at the Allstate Arena and have an opportunity to make history by advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.
