College of Law Recognized by Princeton Review DePaul's College of Law was featured in the 2006 edition of the Princeton Review's book, "Best 159 Law Schools," which is based exclusively on student opinion. The annual survey of American law schools found that law students attending DePaul believe studying and working in downtown Chicago gives them the opportunity to pursue a quality legal education. Moreover, they say that the law school's research centers and institutes allow them to contribute directly to Chicago's legal community. Enrollment Goals Reached for 2005-2006 DePaul's total student enrollment for this fall is 23,148. The freshman class increased by nearly 4 percent to 2,400 students. About 30 percent of new freshmen are first-generation students and 28 percent are students of color. The number of out-of-state students also rose this year by 19 percent and now comprises a record 30 percent of the entire class.. DePaul to Provide Strategic Planning Support to New Orleans The Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul, in partnership with the Public Services graduate program, will assemble and dispatch a team to the Gulf Coast area during the December term to provide technical assistance with urban planning, community development and strategic planning support. The team led by Dr. Gloria Simo, assistant Chaddick Institute director, will work with Father Perry Henry, C.M., pastor of St. Joseph's Church in downtown New Orleans and a former DePaul trustee, and the Tulane-Canal Development Corporation. They will work with community representatives to implement a specific plan and series of actions that will help provide housing, employment and food to those displaced by the hurricane. DePaul Launches Cooperative Education Program The Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) at DePaul is a new program that enables students to integrate classroom study with work experience related to their majors and professional goals.Students will work 20 to 25 hours per week with the same employer for one to three years. Through Co-op, students will graduate with professional experience, earn income to offset tuition, develop a network and earn academic credit. The Co-op program also benefits employers by providing the opportunity to hire DePaul's talented students and preview potential employees. Co-op also provides alumni with a great way to stay involved with the DePaul community and reach out to undergraduates. DePaul invites alumni and their businesses to partner with the university to create co-op positions for commerce and CTI students. For more information contact Leigh Berkowitz, assistant director of Co-op, at coop@depaul.edu or visit the Co-op Web site. Faculty in the News
